Igbo group urges FG to reorganize Nigeria’s flawed federation to address insecurity
The Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), an Igbo think-tank group, has emphasized that the chaotic state of the Nigerian federation is the root cause of the ongoing terrorism, banditry, and violence plaguing the country.
During a press briefing in Enugu, the national president of ADF, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, highlighted that restructuring is the key solution to address the prevailing insecurity and economic crises in Nigeria.
Awuzie further proposed a return to the 1963 regional constitution, stating that the ADF firmly believes that only by establishing an equitable federal structure based on social justice can the nation overcome these challenges.

He emphasized the need for a new people’s constitution rather than amending the existing 1999 Constitution, which he argued was imposed on the people by the military.
Awuzie also expressed concerns about the wastage of resources by the National Assembly in its attempts to amend the constitution, suggesting that the state houses of assembly should play a more significant role in the process.
Ultimately, he stressed the importance of regional autonomy and fiscal federalism as the means to resolve the deep-rooted issues within the Nigerian federation.
