Igbo Enemies Exploiting My Detention to Attack Southeast – Nnamdi Kanu
Detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu claims his incarceration is being used by Igbo enemies to destabilize the Southeast region.
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has stated that his ongoing detention has emboldened enemies of the Igbo people to launch attacks on communities in the Southeast. Kanu made these remarks during a routine meeting with his legal team, led by his lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ejimakor revealed that Kanu was responding to reports of a recent attack on the Amegu Nkalaha community. Residents accused the Nigerian military and police of complicity in the attack, claiming they were warned not to leave the community on Saturday, only for herdsmen to strike the next day without any intervention from security forces.
The residents further alleged that after the attack, soldiers returned to seize their phones, preventing them from documenting the destruction or alerting the public. Reports indicate that 16 people were killed, and 25 houses were completely burned down.
Kanu’s Reaction
Kanu lamented that his detention has created a vacuum, allowing coordinated attacks on defenseless villagers. He asserted that such audacious attacks would not have occurred if he were free. Quoting an Igbo adage, he said, “Gbuo dike, gbuo dike, ihe ike ruo achowa dike” (Kill the brave, and trouble will reign until another brave emerges), emphasizing the need for strong leadership to protect the Igbo people.
Ejimakor’s statement concluded by highlighting Kanu’s belief that his freedom is crucial to safeguarding Igbo communities from further violence.
