Joe Igbokwe, the special adviser on drainage for the governor of Lagos State, has refuted the assertion made by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former emir of Kano, that Nigeria would be worse off if Yemi Osinbajo had been elected president instead.
Remember that Osinbajo campaigned against Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, Rotimi Amaechi, the former minister of transportation, and others in May 2022 for the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential ticket.
After the May 29 handover, Sanusi, who spoke at the virtual book launch for “Osinbajo Strides: Defining Moments of an Innovative Leader,” lamented how Nigeria would miss Osinbajo, but she expressed hope that Osinbajo might still lead the nation in the future.
But on Wednesday, Joe Igbokwe, a senior APC official, responded to the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria by posting on his Facebook page.
If Osinbajo had won the nomination, the ruling party would have lost the presidential election on February 25 to Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“APC’s enemies are talking,” he wrote. By midday on that day, the APC would have fallen behind Atiku’s PDP and not had Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the ballot.
