If elected, Imo PDP governor candidate wants to reduce insecurity
If elected governor of Imo on November 11, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) promises to create jobs to reduce insecurity.
“The best way to reduce insecurity in Imo is not to bomb or kill criminals, but to make sure that the state’s unemployed youth have something to do.
“If the people are gainfully employed, they will not have the time to engage in unlawful acts,” Anyanwu said to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.
If elected, he promised to give the state’s 27 local government bodies complete financial autonomy.
To make sure that the monies were spent wisely, he stressed that he would properly supervise the councils’ allocations.
He bemoaned the fact that Imo had not held local government elections in more than three years and attributed the mounting unemployment to the situation.
Anyanwu suggested that unemployment would decrease if the 27 local government councils in Imo elected their chairman, vice chairs, and councillors.
If elected, he promised to retrain teachers in the state and grant them licence in order to inspire them.
He clarified that following the retraining, licences granted to insubordinate teachers would be revoked.
Anyanwu also complained about the status of Imo’s health care system and promised to impose a state of emergency if elected.
He acknowledged that Imo needed enough medical professionals and pledged to hire plenty of them if elected governor in order to improve healthcare services.
The PDP candidate criticised Imo’s debt, which he estimated to be around N207 billion, and promised to work for debt relief if elected.
In addition, he promised to establish satellite government houses in the state’s three senatorial districts so that he could stay there during trips and that people would have easy access to see him. He also promised that women would receive 35% of the appointments he would make.
Anyanwu served as the PDP’s most recent national secretary and served two terms as the local government chairman and a member of the Imo State House of Assembly. (NAN)(
