In Imo, the ICPC (Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Commission) has started monitoring 82 constituency projects worth N8 billion.

This information was provided to reporters in Owerri on Wednesday by Mr. Victor Onakpoberuo, Team Lead of the ICPC’s projects monitoring team.

As stated by the ICPC’s Spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, on Wednesday, the effort is a part of the tracking of 1,932 constituency projects worth N500 billion throughout 26 states of the federation.

According to Onakpoberuo, the commission’s principal superintendent, the exercise was the sixth stage of its Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Initiative (CEPTI).

He claims that this is in keeping with the ICPC’s mandate to clean up all corruption and corrupt behaviour in Nigeria.

He continued by saying that the effort was designed to look into dishonest procurement techniques in public contract awards for proper service delivery to the public.

He said that the monitoring team would make sure that all publicly sponsored projects were completed in full, enforce adherence to legal standards, and guarantee that the government received value for the money invested in initiatives.

“The initiative will include the commission monitoring 82 projects in different Imo villages, totaling N8,213,772,862.16.

“The initiative is aimed at accelerating development at the community levels, to empower local communities to take ownership of constituency projects and to ensure value for money in government expenditures,” he said.

However, he said that the monitoring team will go to all constituency projects in each of Imo’s 27 council areas to make sure they were finished and up to code. (NAN)
