ICPC confirms detaining D’Banj in connection with claims of N-Power scam
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) verified Mr. Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo’s arrest and imprisonment on Wednesday in connection with the investigation of fraud connected to the N-Power Program. Mr. Oyebanjo is also known by his stage name, D’Banj.
This information was provided to Obasanjonews24 on Wednesday in a statement written by Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, the Commission’s spokesperson.
“On June 8, 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari launched the N-Power program to address the problems of young unemployment and empowerment while also promoting social development.
“Following its mandate, the Commission had received several petitions regarding the misappropriation of N-Power monies totalling billions of naira after the Federal Government approved and released such payments to the recipients.
Numerous N-Power beneficiaries had expressed dissatisfaction about not receiving their monthly payments, despite the Government having made them.
“In the past few months, the ICPC has invited about 10 people about the N-Power fraud; following their detention, these people were given administrative bail. Mr. Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo disregarded several requests to come before an investigative team and did not accept any of them.
“On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, Mr. Oyebanjo handed himself in and was taken into custody at the ICPC Headquarters. He is now assisting the investigations in determining the facts surrounding the fraud charges made by the petitioners.
“The inquiry will be thorough and broadened to include more fraud partners as well as the institutions holding the beneficiary accounts.
“In light of the numerous media stories, the press release is required to clarify the situation. The statement read, “The Commission prefers not to preempt the outcome of the investigation while it is ongoing and also avoids the frenzy of a media trial.
