Ibadan explosion: 230 properties currently undergoing tests to assess structural integrity — Makinde

Following the explosion in Bodija, Ibadan last Tuesday, approximately 230 properties within a 250-meter radius of the blast site are undergoing structural integrity tests.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) is conducting these tests, which include 13 houses within a 50-meter radius, 40 houses at a 100-meter radius, 122 houses at a 200-meter radius, and 53 houses within a 250-meter radius. In an update titled “Update on the Bodija Incident,” Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced that the focus of operations has shifted from search and rescue to recovery.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu for releasing the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to provide support and assistance.

Makinde also commended the security agencies in Oyo State for maintaining law and order and the residents for complying with directives. Regarding casualties, Makinde stated that the death toll stands at five, with 90% of the victims already discharged.

He mentioned that counseling has begun for the victims at the Emergency Operations Centre in Ibadan.

Makinde reiterated his commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the incident are held accountable and assured that updates on the investigation will be made public.

He concluded by providing contact information for the Emergency Operations Centre for any issues related to the Bodija Incident.
