An Ibadan court has remanded two individuals for allegedly using dogs to resist police arrest. Discover the details of this unusual crime.
Olayinka Akinware, 35 and Tunji Adesina, 29 have been ordered by an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan to be remanded for their alleged use of four dogs that hindered police officers from arresting a suspect.
Magistrate M. Mudashiru presided over the court which refrained from hearing the defendants’ plea, citing a lack of jurisdiction. The remandment of said individuals to Abolongo Correctional Facility was ordered while awaiting legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Further mention of the case will take place on December 18 as it has been adjourned.

Inspector Femi Oluwadare, the Prosecution Counsel stated that Akinware and Adesina are being charged with conspiracy and obstructing arrest for an incident that took place at their home in Oluwo, Ibadan around 8:30 a.m. on September 12th.
It is alleged that the suspects used bamboo tree branches to assault four police officers, namely DSP Festus Fagbohun, ASP Ojo Tolulope, Inspector Sariki Mohammed and Corporal Tosin Olubode. Additionally, they released their Pitbulls’, Rottweiler’s and two Eskimo dogs’ at them in a bid to resist the legal arrest of Korede Adeoye who was residing with them.
The accusations are claimed by the prosecution to contravene Sections 332 and 516 of Oyo State’s Criminal Code Laws, which impose a life imprisonment sentence upon conviction.
The extraordinary circumstances concerning the employment of dogs in hindering law enforcement have resulted in considerable publicity for this case.
