President Bola Tinubu met with service commanders for the first time since assuming office, demanding that security agencies improve coordination and refrain from working in opposition to one another.
At the conclusion of the meeting on Thursday, the President outlined his own philosophy for addressing security issues: the adoption of modern security measures to improve the nation’s security prospects.
Addressing State House correspondents, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, who conveyed the President’s message, disclosed that the President requires frequent consultations in accordance with the nation’s needs and will initiate a number of reforms.
The President also ordered the security agencies to devise a plan to address the issue of petroleum oil smuggling, indicating the need to adapt to the changing circumstances.
Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, and Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba were in attendance at the President’s first meeting with the heads of the nation’s security and intelligence agencies.
Others include Yusuf Bichi, Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), and Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
‘I Will Defend Nigeria From Terror’

He stated, “We will defend the nation against terrorism and all forms of crime that threaten the peace and stability of our nation and our subregion.”
“Security will be our administration’s top priority because neither prosperity nor justice can prevail in an environment of insecurity and violence.
“In order to effectively combat this threat, we will reform our security doctrine and architecture.
“We will invest more in our security personnel, which entails more than a simple increase in headcount. We will provide superior training, equipment, pay, and armament,” he continued.
