I support Tinubu’s government, and I’ll criticize when necessary — Fayose
The former governor of Ekiti State and ardent PDP supporter stated he does not anticipate the President’s defeat.
Ayo Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, says he supports President Bola Tinubu’s administration but won’t be afraid to criticize it if it breaks its campaign pledges to Nigerians.
“If the government in power is not doing the right thing, we’ll be courageous enough to tell the government in power,” Fayose said to reporters at the State House following a meeting with the President on Thursday.
“I didn’t hesitate to tell (Muhammadu) Buhari the truth and the government while he was president of this nation. I Ayo Fayose, Oshoko, will have the guts to inform President Ahmed Bola Tinubu if he is avoiding his mandate, he added.
The time for administration has arrived, according to Fayose, and Nigerians must unite behind the President, who, in his opinion, has good intentions for the nation.
The former governor stated that he does not anticipate the President failing, adding that if there is a delay, it won’t be due to the President doing it on purpose.
Fayose praised the actions the Tinubu administration has already made, stating that they easily show Nigerians where this government is headed.
When asked if he was still a PDP member, he responded, “I will never be a member of the APC (All Progressives Congress)”. I am a PDP man, and if anything forces me to leave the party or if I never engage in partisan politics again, I will remain my wife’s at-home husband.
Appointment?
The former governor of Ekiti State responded, “It is not a matter of party; Nigeria is bigger than all political parties and all interest groups. If the President offers me an appointment, I will accept it. You don’t need to set an appointment to change things, I’ll say it again. Nigeria has a population of around 200 million people, so no one can be on appointment. Success in the APC or the effort to form a government of national unity depends entirely on service.
“Let me state clearly that I am not at all desperate, but I don’t hesitate and I never will to give advice wherever I am. I support this administration without any qualms. Most people from the past will attest to the fact that I always spoke highly of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even though I was the governor of Ekiti at the time.
But he added that if the Tinubu administration breaks its promises to Nigerians, he won’t hold back in criticizing it.
“I want to convey to you that when President Buhari was coming, Nigerians knew me very well. I have been very clear from the beginning that the President will not succeed. I didn’t run away; instead, I kept saying that I was available to it.
“I will be the first to speak up if Asiwaju breaks his word, as he stated when he was running for office. I am not afraid to take on problems, and I don’t back down from them, but the man I saw today is not someone I would praise or eulogize in order to win someone over—I am no longer a boy. Let me say that the man I saw today and the activities we have witnessed have good intentions for Nigeria.
But if there is a reason for it to go off course, it won’t be on purpose, and we will all be able to call his attention to his duties as our nation’s commander in chief. Let’s be upbeat, let’s be positive, let’s think things will turn around,” he advised.
