The new national team captain will be chosen by his players, not by Super Eagles head coach Finidi George.
Ahmed Musa, the team’s former captain, is currently without a club and is not anticipated to return to international football.
William Troost-Ekong, Musa’s deputy, has led the Super Eagles in the majority of their games over the past few years.
Kenneth Omeruo, the team’s most seasoned centre back and current captain, is also favoured to assume the position.

But Finidi has stated that he will let the players choose who will be their leader.
During his media tour, he stated, “It’s not my responsibility (to pick a captain), it’s the responsibility of the team.”
“People said that Finidi George ought to choose his captain, just as Oliseh did on Sunday.”
“It is not my duty to select the captain.
The participants will select the companion with whom they feel most at ease.
“Who wears the arm band of the captain will be decided by them.”
