I notified Atiku both before and after my meeting with Tinubu – Bwala

Daniel Bwala, the former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the February 2023 presidential election, revealed that he had informed Atiku about his meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

Bwala stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program. After meeting with the President, Bwala informed Atiku, who responded by thanking him for the notification. Bwala, who was a strong critic of Tinubu during the election, clarified that his decision to support Tinubu after his victory does not imply betrayal towards Atiku.

He dismissed criticisms of his sudden change in allegiance and described them as absurd. Bwala had previously left the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July 2022 when Tinubu announced his running mate, citing disagreement with Tinubu’s choice of a Muslim as his running mate.

He then joined Atiku’s campaign, who had chosen a Christian as his running mate. However, Bwala surprised many when he met with the President and declared his unwavering support for him. Despite facing criticism for his political ideology, Bwala defended his right to change his ideology if he so desires.

The attorney expressed that his role as Atiku’s spokesperson during the previous campaign was akin to that of a salesperson, with the primary objective of promoting a product and discrediting competitors.

Bwala, who had a sudden change of heart, clarified that he never stated that Tinubu was unfit to be Nigeria’s President.

He further mentioned that now that Atiku did not emerge victorious, Tinubu would be suitable for the position. When questioned about his political affiliation, Bwala responded with restraint, neither confirming if he still belonged to the PDP nor disclosing if he had rejoined the APC.

Additionally, he stated that the President did not pledge any appointment in his cabinet during their meeting on Wednesday. However, he expressed his willingness to collaborate with the President in any capacity that serves the best interests of the Nigerian people.
