Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, has made it clear that he never pledged to pay Igbos for their abandoned homes as a result of the Nigerian Civil War.
Amaechi emphasised that he had “simply apologised to the Igbos on behalf of the state on abandoned properties from the Nigerian civil war” in a statement sent through his media staff.
Yet the former transportation minister claimed that if he had been in charge at the time, he would never have let such a thing to happen.
Amaechi said that Governor Nyesom Wike spread the information regarding the compensation with the objective of confusing the state.
The renowned Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers “fallen for the bogus story pushed by Wike, without additional clarification,” he expressed dismay.
The former governor claimed that Wike and his goons now traffic in divisive false information to defame him.
He urged the people of Rivers to disregard Wike’s false information.
