I Have No Regrets for Working Against PDP in 2023 Poll – Wike

Friday Ogbeide

Ex-Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike reaffirms his stance on opposing the PDP in the 2023 presidential elections, stating he holds no regrets for his actions.

On Tuesday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stated that he has no regrets about opposing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election.

Wike, during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, denied participating in anti-party activities by not supporting Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate at the time.

He justified his decision, stating it was made in the interest of justice and fairness.

“In the presidential election, I committed to backing equity, fairness, and justice. In contrast, for the other race, my support was with my party—resulting in our victory in both the gubernatorial and National Assembly elections,” Wike stated.

“I don’t apologize for my presidential actions because I stand against injustice. People today say ‘discipline Wike, he was involved in anti-party activities.’ However, I maintain that I did not engage in any anti-party conduct,” Wike stated.

Leading up to the 2023 general elections, Wike, who was then the governor of Rivers State, teamed up with four other discontented PDP governors—Samuel Ortom of Benue, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu—to oppose Atiku’s aspirations.

The five governors consistently demanded that Senator Iyorchia Ayu resign as the PDP national chairman before they would support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku later lost the presidential election to Bola Tinubu, who was then a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and under whose administration he is currently serving as minister.
