Toke Makinwa recently shared that she underwent surgery to remove 13 fibroids from her body, a decision she made after watching Stephanie Coker’s documentary “Where the Heck is My Period.”

She revealed that fibroids have been a prevalent issue among the women in her family, with some having to undergo hysterectomies.

Growing up, she noticed something was amiss due to her enlarged abdomen, irregular menstrual cycles, and a noticeable bulge when lying down.

Makinwa expressed her relief at not having Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) but acknowledged her struggles with fibroids, drawing parallels between her symptoms and those highlighted in the documentary.

She recounted instances where she had to wear multiple waist cinchers to conceal her belly during her early days in the industry, as people would often speculate about her pregnancy status.

The media personality also shared the emotional toll of witnessing her cousins undergo hysterectomies and the stress of dealing with excessive bleeding.

Makinwa emphasized the importance of open conversations about such health issues among women, praising Coker for shedding light on the topic through her documentary.
