According to Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, the police have put in place watertight procedures to ensure a free and fair governorship election on November 11 in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi.

This was stated by Egbetokun on Thursday in Abuja during a press conference and meeting with strategic police managers to promote the Nigeria Police Force’s policies, innovations, and accomplishments during the previous five weeks.

The purpose of the conference, according to him, was to provide attendees the chance to discuss some operational strategies for policing the concurrent off-season governorship elections that would be held in the three states.

“We’re going to take advantage of the fact that the polls are only taking place in three states in order to mobilise effectively for this election.

“Just as you have observed in earlier solitary elections in Nigeria, you will observe that there are more guys available than there were in general elections.

“As a result, I have no fear, and no one should entertain any concerns about how safe and secure the upcoming elections in November will be.

Nobody should worry about the election because we are ready for it and will begin the deployment very soon, he added, adding that it will only take three states, which will be extremely handy for us.
Egbetokun claimed that the police made a conscious decision to travel to one of the states where the election was taking place for its yearly retreat.

“We purposefully and not by mistake chose that state and that date since the conference would be two weeks before the election.

To demonstrate to the populace that we are prepared for the election and that there is no need for concern, he said.

In spite of the warnings of political and socio-economic upheaval that accompanied the elimination of gasoline subsidies and post-election tribunal judgements across the nation, he said that the internal security situation of the country had been rather peaceful during the last month.

“In comparison, we have a lower number of violent crimes and other serious offences across the nation.

“We are all aware of recent government initiatives aimed at promoting economic recovery and growth through regional and global interactions with businesspeople and technologists.

“The Nigeria Police Force is poised to support the efforts of government by providing the needed security and enabling environment for all legitimate businesses and other economic activities in Nigeria,” he declared.

In order to ensure that it played its part effectively in the efforts to achieve economic recovery, growth, as well as social and political development of the country, he said that the force would leave no stone unturned and would remain vigilant.

As a result, all command commissioners of police and other tactical commanders are thus ordered to make sure that sufficient security is installed and maintained in their respective domains.

He declared, “Any attempt by dishonest person(s) to undermine the economic resurgence that our nation is about to witness would be faced with stern opposition from all of us.
