Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani was declared the victor of the recently finished Adamawa Governorship election by Hudu Yunusa Ari, the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State.
In an interview with BBC Hausa on Tuesday, Hudu Yunusa Ari claimed he had no regrets about declaring the results and refuted claims that he had received a 2 billion Naira payoff.
He asserted that the law provided him the authority to announce the outcome and added that he was prepared to turn himself in to the Nigeria Police upon their invitation.
According to Obasanjonews24, Ari declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor of Adamawa State as the victor of the election while the results from the state’s local government units were still being tallied.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), however, promptly revoked the results that had been declared and delayed the release.
There were claims that Ari vanished off radar and had not been seen since the historic episode, but the election umpire called him to the INEC headquarters in Abuja after distancing itself from Ari’s activities.
