Ikedi Ohakim, the former governor of Imo State, has denied that he helped send $1 million to Athan Achonu, the Labour Party candidate for governor of the state.
Last week, a recording appeared on social media sites that said Ohakim was the person who helped current Governor Hope Uzodimma give $1 million to Achonu so that he could win the Labour Party’s nomination.
Ohakim said that the accusation was false and slanderous to the point of being illegal.
The former governor said, “My attention has been drawn to a viral audio that says HE. Gov Hope Uzodimma used me as a middleman to give $1 million to Sen. Athan Achonu, who is running for governor as the LP candidate.” This tape is fake and criminally offensive, so I’m taking steps right away to bring the person who made it to justice.”
Last weekend, Achonu was chosen as the Labour Party’s candidate for governor. Another candidate, Gen. Jack Ogunewe (Ret. ), says that there were problems with the election.
Achonu won the nomination with 134 votes, while Ogunewe came in second with 125 votes.
