OdumoduBlvck, a Nigerian rapper, recently expressed his perspective on the Nigerian music scene in a podcast interview.

He stated that while he is capable of producing core hip-hop music similar to that of American star Eminem, he has chosen not to do so because he believes Nigerians do not fully comprehend hip-hop.

According to him, Nigerians predominantly prefer melodic music, so he intentionally “dumbed down” his rap style to ensure commercial success.

OdumoduBlvck aims to make Nigerian rap more exciting, drawing inspiration from Wizkid’s impact on R&B in the country.

He acknowledged that some Nigerians have attempted pure rap, but failed to make it appealing enough for people to embrace.

In response to criticism that his rap sounds like nursery school rhymes, he explained that he simplified his lyrics to make them easily understandable without the need for a dictionary.

While his rap may not be considered hardcore, he believes he has made it exciting and enjoyable for his audience, similar to Wizkid’s approach with R&B.

Despite his ability to rap like Eminem, OdumoduBlvck believes that his local audience would not connect with that style of music due to a lack of understanding.
