Wike contends that if the nation is to remain together, authority must be transferred to the South.

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has praised the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is now in power, for supporting the rotating presidency and the power transfer to the South.

The support for a southern president had nothing to do with political parties, but rather with Nigeria’s unity and oneness, according to Wike, who spoke at the commissioning of Akpabu-Egbeda road in the Emohua Local Government Area (APC) on Friday. He identified himself as one of the apostles of the power shift.

On March 1, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDPAtiku )’s Abubakar finished in second place, with the APC’s Bola Tinubu being proclaimed the winner.

The Rivers governor, a PDP member, had declined to lend his support to Atiku’s campaign, claiming that the party’s charter prohibited one area of the nation from producing both the presidential candidate and the national chairman.

He remarked, “I applaud and praise the people of Emohua local government for standing steadfast to support the southern presidency.

“I did add that as one of the proponents of the power transfer, I maintain it has nothing to do with the party (sic). It relates to Nigeria’s unity and must demonstrate such unity.

“That is why I applaud the APC governors who came out courageously and said no, this country we are all one, even though they are in power.”

Wike contends that if the nation is to remain together, authority must be transferred to the South.

“I applaud them [APC], therefore whether you voted for [Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter] Obi or you voted for Asiwaju [Tinubu], I have no problem with you, as much as you stood for the southern presidency,” he said.

Wike advised the populace to protect their voting places against intimidation and vote box snatching ahead of the March 18 gubernatorial and state assembly elections.

The governor of Rivers said that since he had won “three over three” in the senate elections on February 25, he would also win the 32 assembly seats in the state.
