The former governor of the state of Ekiti, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has said that he will not call President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the phone without invitation to discuss the possibilities of joining his cabinet.

In an interview, the former governor asserted that Tinubu’s achievement would benefit all citizens and that he would keep advising and making suggestions to the president whether or not he was chosen.

The former head of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum responded, “I worked for the party and the president and don’t forget that I wanted to be president too,” when asked why he wasn’t a member of the cabinet. Therefore, giving up on politics or government is not going to happen. I said as I was leaving that I had known President Tinubu for more than thirty years and that he knew I would always be there to support his government, whether I was in office or not. However, I will not be among those who will phone him without permission. I will answer if he calls for me.

He called me aside to talk about a few things, including our difficulties in Ondo, as he knew of my connection to the Governor. I offered him my own insights and counsel at that moment during our meeting at COP28. So I’ll be here to help in the background at all times. As members of the APC, we are all accountable for his presidency.

In response to a question on what the party leadership ought to do to enable the president to have public input, he declared, “I am an APC foundation member. In my opinion, it is our collective duty as party leaders to ensure that our president is fully informed about any information that he may not be receiving inside the villa. After all, we want a president who fulfils the expectations of the people who elected him. Ultimately, his failure to do so weakens each and every one of us.

In order to “basically provide emerging leaders with the tools to engage in policy-making, policy management, and policy implementation, particularly on a continental basis,” Fayemi disclosed that he will shortly launch his policy institute. Soon, you would learn more about that.
