Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, a senator from Ogun West Senatorial District, stated that the country’s hunger and poverty were the main goals of the N28.7 trillion yearly budget for 2024 that was approved and signed into law.

He reassured Nigerians that there was still hope for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, pointing out that lawmakers had increased the budget to the amount that was approved in order to address some important but unrelated issues, one of which was the strategy for addressing hunger in the country.

Adeola, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, made this statement to reporters on the fringes of a New Year’s Thanksgiving celebration on Wednesday in Ilaro, in the Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State.

He was optimistic that conscious measures aimed at the impoverished would reduce hunger, and he added that President Bola Tinubu supported the notion and was trying to alleviate Nigerians’ financial hardships.

He claims that upon realising how much attention both upper and lower house MPs had paid to combating poverty, President Tinubu enthusiastically signed the budget into law.

He added that the nation will be focusing on food production and food security this year and that the 29.7 trillion budget that was signed into law included over N300 billion for the agricultural sector alone. This was a sign of the administration’s commitment to providing for the needs of Nigerians.

As you can see, the appropriations bill was signed into law by the president. It now totals N28.7 trillion, of which almost N300 billion is allocated to agriculture alone.

That essentially indicates that the current administration is committed to eradicating hunger in the nation and will be making significant efforts in the field of food production.

“We (the lawmakers) have done so much in the appropriations act that was just recently signed by Mr. President to ensure food security in Nigeria to end hunger in the land,” he added.
