The Senate’s confirmation of Olu Olukayode and Mohammed Hamajoda as Chairman and Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been the subject of information from Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s experience.
Akpabio’s admission occurred during debates about the Senate’s proposal to reform the EFCC Act, which emphasised the need to strengthen and improve the agency.
Akpabio expressed reservations about the EFCC’s operations, claiming that it serves a more prosecuting than investigative purpose.
He touched on a personal experience involving a petty petition filed against him ahead of the general elections in 2023 by political rivals.

According to Senator Akpabio, he refused to react to the pointless petition.
The former EFCC Chairman, on the other hand, disclosed his personal reaction to the news website Sahara Reporters.
The truth is that, in my opinion, the EFCC has prioritised sensation over substantive inquiry.
“In terms of me, I’ve had my fair share. Even a letter from my office advising the EFCC that I wouldn’t be able to attend due to a spurious appeal was provided to reporters from Sahara by the EFCC Chairman’s office.
“The Chairman’s seal will be visible on it. To the glory of God, I overcame it. He only gave it to Sahara reporters to humiliate me before of the 2023 elections. I’ve arrived.
“I’d prefer not to comment on the EFCC. The EFCC Act would be amended to enhance it and increase the agency’s effectiveness, Akpabio declared during the Senate session.
