How man killed elderly woman after raping her – Police
On Tuesday, Babatunde Ashifat, an assistant superintendent of police, described how Jelili Lawal raped a septuagenarian to death in front of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.
The state attorney’s key witness, Ms. Bukola Okeowo, informed the court that he was given the matter to look into on January 2, 2019.
According to Ashifat, a patrolling officer at their station reported the incident.
The witness further informed the court that the two women who reportedly witnessed the defendant raping the girl were the ones who called the police and reported the incident.
He claims that on January 1, 2019, the elderly woman implored the defendant to kindly help her find her way home while they were in the Maryland neighbourhood of Lagos.
The defendant paid her N500, and the two of them got on the same bus, he claimed.
“After telling the victim to come down at the Shoprite when they arrived at the bus stop, the defendant led her to an unfinished structure in a bushy area where he beat and raped her in the middle of the night.
“Two women overheard the victim screaming for aid and saw the defendant in the act.
“They called a patrol officer to assist the woman, and the incident was reported to our station,” the person said.

The claimed victim, who had an issue with her ears and was reported missing by her family, allegedly suffered injuries as a result of the sexual assault, Ashifat further related to the court.
He stated that the incident’s claimed victim later passed away as a result of heavy bleeding.
I filed a medical form requesting that the victim be brought to Mirabel Medical Centre because she was bleeding from her anus and vagina.
““The doctor who looked at her confirmed that there had been a strong penetration on the vagina.
The witness added, “I was told later that the victim died due to the bleeding she sustained as a result of the rape.”
The policeman added that he had recorded the claimed victim’s and defendant’s statements after the report was filed.
He claimed to have been to the crime scene, which was a bushy, abandoned location with no one residing there.
The case was postponed to October 27, 2023, so that the trial may continue. Justice Rahman Oshodi.
