Billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote reveals how former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun twice demolished his company’s cement plant.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group, revealed that a proposed cement plant in Itori was demolished twice by Senator Ibikunle Amosun during his tenure as governor of Ogun State.

In a viral video shared on social media on Monday, Dangote revealed the information but did not explain why Amosun acted as he did.

Despite the setbacks, the billionaire businessman and philanthropist commended Prince Dapo Abiodun, the current governor, for stepping in to support and ensure the continuation of the project.

“I believe it’s important to have it documented that the reason we’re visiting this cement factory in Itori now is due to His Excellency, Dapo Abiodun.”

The factory was demolished on two occasions. Initially, we began construction, but Governor Amosun had it torn down. When we restarted the project a second time, he not only demolished the factory once more but also took down the fencing as well, so we decided to move on from there.

“As of now, we are returning because of His Excellency my brother, Prince Dapo Abiodun,” Dangote said.

Remember that Amosun, who served two terms as the Senator for Ogun Central senatorial district, was also the governor of Ogun State from 2011 to 2019.

According to our correspondent, during the 2023 agreement signing with China Sinoma International Engineering—a foreign firm responsible for constructing the cement plant—Dangote stated that once completed, the new integrated cement facility will bolster Dangote Cement’s local production capacity to 41.25 million tons annually and increase its total African capacity to 57.6 million tons per year.

He stated that the Itori Cement Plant will boost Nigeria’s ability to export cement, promoting greater diversification and increased foreign exchange inflows for the economy.

Dangote stated that the project was anticipated to boost the local economy by generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs, thereby promoting economic growth in Itori, Ogun State. He mentioned that ancillary businesses would be attracted to this area as they aim to leverage the cement plant’s location for supplying goods and services to employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.

He mentioned that building the new cement plant aligns with Dangote Group’s vision to produce locally-made goods that were previously imported, utilizing abundant local raw materials for production.
