The presidency has disclosed how the Central Bank of Nigeria’s, CBN, decision to redesign particular Naira notes is hurting some billionaires who may have hidden the cash in their numerous homes.
Femi Adesina, the chief spokesperson for President Muhammadu Buhari, described how a client stormed a commercial bank to deposit N20 million that was already gummed together, moist, and odoriferous in an article on Friday.
Adesina claims that attempts by bank employees to sort the notes failed, which resulted in the rejection of the cash.
According to him, there was a strong stench that permeated the whole ambience of a banking hall in Abuja a few days prior.
“Whodunnit? The sum of N20 million had been delivered by an enigmatic depositor from who knows where, but the cash was smelly, moist, and gummed up.
The bank employees did their best to organize the notes at first.
They put on hand gloves and nasal masks and started counting.
“But Lazarus had already started to decompose because he had been dead for so long. There is no way to make the body walk. The depositor was then instructed to depart the bank with his goods, which had already entered demurrage.
He fled like a dog that has been whipped, with his tail between his knees. But the stench persisted. The banking hall required cleaning and deodorizing.
Adesina applauded the Apex bank’s move, which, in his opinion, is starting to have fruitful outcomes.
President Buhari recently unveiled new Naira notes, which will be issued on December 15 as the old notes expire in January.
