House of Reps Orders Probe into NIMC Data Breach

The recent data breach at the National Identity Management Commission, or NIMC, has prompted the House of Representatives’ Committee on Digital and Information Technology to launch a thorough investigation into the incident.

According to the Obasanjonews.com, the decision followed a motion made on Thursday by Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, the chairman of the Committee on Digital and Information Technology.

In a statement provided to Obasanjonews.com on Friday by his media assistant, Tolu Mustapha, Olajide stated that the committee would also suggest actions to stop such incidents from happening in the future.

The House of Representatives’ Committee on Digital and Information Technology has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the recent data breach at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC),” the statement reads.

The National Identity administration Commission’s administration is anticipated to meet with the investigating panel the following week in order to brief the committee on the results of its internal probe as well as other committee mandates.

More than 50 million Nigerians’ personal information was compromised in a recent NIMC data breach, underscoring the need for stronger data security and protection protocols.

It is anticipated that the House Committee on Digital and Information Technology will determine what caused the breach, who was responsible, and what steps should be taken to avoid it in the future.
