A sudden explosion has rocked Rivers State ahead of the local government polls, sparking fears over election-day safety. Get the latest updates on this developing story.

It has been reported that individuals suspected of arson have set off explosives at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

learned that the incident took place on Saturday morning, just a few hours before the Local Government election in the state.

Video clips circulating on social media suggest that the incident, allegedly caused by dynamite, damaged the main gate and security house of the APC secretariat, along with sections of a nearby building.

Chief Tony Okocha, the State caretaker committee chairman of the main opposition party, confirmed this to LEADERSHIP.

Okocha alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s supporters were responsible for the attack on the secretariat.

Okocha stated, “In the early hours of Saturday, supporters aligned with Fubara set off explosives at our office.”

“The security at the gate quickly extinguished the fire, thwarting the second attempt to set it ablaze.”
