Hours after becoming Senate President, Akpabio meets with Tinubu

The President and the APC supported each of the 10th National Assembly’s four top officials.

After being elected Senate President for the 10th National Assembly on Tuesday, Senator Godswill Akpabio met with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Villa in Abuja.

Akpabio was accompanied by former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, as well as governors of Imo and Lagos, Hope Uzodimma and Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Despite criticism and opposition from some APC members, Tinubu and Akpabio were supported by the party in power.

Akpabio defeated Senator Abdul’aziz Yari during the opening of the 10th National Assembly on Tuesday, becoming the new Senate President.

After defeating Senator Yari, who received 46 votes, the former governor of Akwa Ibom was re-elected as president of the 10th Senate.

Senator Jibrin Barau, who represents the Kano North Senatorial District, won the position of Senate Deputy President without any challengers, replacing Ovie Omo-Agege.

Additionally, Tajudeen Abbas, a member of the House of Representatives from the Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, was chosen as the 10th National Assembly’s Deputy Speaker of the House on Tuesday. Abbas represents the Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State.
