Hoodlums Fatally Stab Uber Driver, Abandon Body on Lagos Road

Tragedy in Lagos as an Uber driver is stabbed to death by hoodlums, who later dump his body on the roadside. Authorities launch an investigation into the brutal attack.

The Lagos State branch of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria has conveyed profound sorrow over the tragic death of 42-year-old e-hailing driver Yusfat Ayinde, who was fatally stabbed by unknown attackers on Friday evening.

Jaiyesinmi Azeez, the union’s chairman, confirmed the incident and disclosed that Ayinde was on duty when he received a ride request via the e-hailing app.

When he reached the designated pickup location, a group of hoodlums ambushed him.

The attackers stabbed Ayinde, leaving him mortally wounded, before escaping with his vehicle.

Azeez denounced the senseless attack and called on security agencies to step up efforts in capturing those responsible while enhancing safety measures for drivers using e-hailing platforms.

He stated, “Yusfat Olawale Ayinde was our member and the administrator of a professional chauffeur organization in the state. He tragically lost his life in a brutal attack carried out by unknown assailants. Based on our investigation, Ayinde had accepted a ride request through an e-hailing app and, upon reaching the specified location, he was ambushed by a group who summoned him there. The attackers fatally stabbed Ayinde and then stole his vehicle.”

It was reported that the deceased’s body was abandoned along Agindigbi Road in Ikeja, from where it was taken to the morgue.

Nonetheless, Azeez voiced worries about the safety of union members and called for enhanced security measures to protect drivers in the area.

He mentioned that the union, via its task force, had initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ayinda’s murder.

He mentioned that the task force is actively collaborating with the family and various authorities to collect evidence and pinpoint which app was used for the ride request. They are making efforts to locate the assailants and ensure they face justice.

The task force will collaborate with law enforcement to improve investigative efforts and utilize technology in identifying the assailants.

Azeez mentioned that talks were in progress to introduce extra safety measures for e-hailing drivers. These may include potential emergency response systems and enhanced surveillance in areas deemed high-risk.
