The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested five suspected rapists, including an HIV sufferer, for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in Jigawa State.
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, a police spokeswoman, confirmed the arrest in a statement to Obasanjonews24.
He stated that the culprits were apprehended on Friday in Yola Quaters, Jahun Local Government Area, after the victim’s father reported to police that his 14-year-old daughter had been raped while peddling Awara.
According to Shiisu, one of the suspects, Aliyu Sani, brought the victim into Rabiu Ibrahim’s room, and they both had carnal knowledge of her.
He further stated that other suspects, Idris Haruna, Rabiu Inuwa, and Hussaini Mato, all of Jahun town, had sexual relations with the victim on multiple occasions at various dates, locations, and times.
The suspects and victim were transferred to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre Dutse (SARC Dutse) for medical evaluation, where one of the suspects was confirmed HIV positive and another tested positive for hepatitis, according to a police official.
He stated that the victim has tested negative thus far, but will be checked three months later following the disease’s incubation period to determine her health condition.
He indicated that the accused will be arraigned in court for possible prosecution.
