Record-breaking news: Kamala Harris achieves a new high in fundraising. Find out what this means for her campaign and future plans.

According to her campaign staff, Kamala Harris received an impressive $81 million in contributions within the initial 24 hours after Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race and publicly supported her as a candidate for vice president of the United States.

According to Team Harris, the latest fundraising campaign marks “the most substantial 24-hour increase in presidential history.” The team asserts that they have garnered over 888,000 contributions from grassroots supporters, with roughly 60% of them choosing to donate for the first time during this election cycle.

“Campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz stated that Vice President Harris’s historic surge of support exemplifies the grassroots energy and zeal required to win elections.”

The biggest Democratic political action committee in the United States, Future Forward, disclosed on Monday to Politico magazine that it acquired $150 million in fresh pledges from significant contributors within a day.

On Sunday, Biden brought an end to his reelection campaign and threw his support behind Harris. Democrats had been urging him for weeks to step down from the race due to worries about his mental acuity and chances of defeating ex-President Trump in November. Despite previously refusing such calls, Biden ultimately ceded that it was “the best course of action both for my party as well as our nation.”

CNN reports that Harris has received endorsements from over 40 Democratic senators, close to 100 House members, and multiple governors like Gavin Newsom of California, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania. The ultimate decision on the nominee will be made by Democrats at their convention in August.

The Republicans chose Trump as their presidential candidate last week and selected Ohio Senator J.D. Vance to be his running mate. During a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13th, an assassination attempt was made against Trump which grazed his right ear with the gunman’s bullet. The shooter who was stopped during the incident presented no clear motive according to FBI investigations so far.
