264 of the 1,800 couples chosen for the mass wedding sponsored by the Kano State Government had their weddings postponed because the suitors tested positive for certain illnesses and were receiving treatment.
At a reception held for the couples by the State Government at the Government House in Kano on Saturday, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, the organisation tasked with organising the mass wedding, revealed this.
But according to Daurawa, 1,500 couples got married on Friday.
He promised to announce a new date for the weddings of the remaining 264 couples after taking the medication.
The Muslim cleric praised the state administration for the kind gesture and claimed that the wedding plan had been carried out according to the law and in a transparent manner.
Daurawa cautioned the newlyweds to fear God in their interactions with one another while praying for the couples to experience permanent marital bliss.
Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s national leader, advised newlywed couples not to check their partners’ phones during his remarks in order to prevent anything from happening that would cause their marriage to end.
He claimed that one of the main reasons for marriage breakdowns is spouses monitoring each other’s phones, therefore married couples should avoid doing anything that can provoke a crisis.
Kwankwaso applauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration for funding and implementing the mass wedding programme.

Additionally, he applauded the government for allocating more than N700 million to finance more than 600 students at various universities abroad.
“By electing Governor Abba Yusuf as our governor, we made the right decision. He is a capable leader who has carried on our traditions. This large-scale wedding is one of such legacies.
In addition to this, he is completing projects with a broad audience. We appeal to Kano State’s good citizens to support his administration, he said.
Earlier, Yusuf said that the recipients of the mass wedding were chosen from among the state’s 484 wards and 44 local government units.
He said that at least 30 couples were chosen from each of the state’s 44 local government units.
He said that the state government handled every aspect of the marriage, including the payment of the dowry, the provision of furniture, wedding supplies, and a grant of N20,000 enabling the brides to launch small enterprises from the comfort of their homes throughout their marriages.
The governor consequently asked the spouses to coexist in harmony in line with Islamic teachings.
