Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, has stated that power outages and expensive petroleum products might contribute to a rise in poverty levels in Nigeria.
In a Sunday post on X, Obi emphasized that the ongoing power outages are having an unimaginable negative impact on businesses, particularly small ones.

The ex-Governor of Anambra State expressed concern over the prolonged total blackout that has affected Northern Nigeria for several days.
The ongoing power outages across many regions of the country, especially in the Northern and Eastern States along with the South-South states, continue to be a serious concern.
The prolonged power outage has a devastating effect on businesses, particularly small ones that rely heavily on public electricity to maintain their operations and support their livelihoods.
He tweeted, “This power crisis, alongside the current high cost of petroleum products and challenging business conditions, continues to be a dangerous mix leading to widespread business failures and rising poverty in the country.”
