Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr praises a standout player as his favorite to win the African Footballer of the Year award, calling him “fantastic.”
Benin Republic coach Gernot Rohr has predicted that Super Eagles forward Lookman Ademola will win the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award.
The German, aged 71, referred to Lookman as a fantastic player.
Rohr spoke on Thursday in Abidjan before Benin’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Nigeria.
Rohr expressed to the Nation that he believes Lookman is Africa’s top contender for the footballer of the year golden award, describing him as a fantastic player.
He added, “However, I hope he doesn’t score against us on Thursday like he did in the last game in Uyo.”
“Rwanda is our competitor, and Nigeria has practically already qualified. I hope the match will be as good and spectacular to watch as the last one we had here in Abidjan against Nigeria in June.”
