Small Aircraft crashes in Ikeja, Lagos

Everyone on board was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital.

A tiny plane has crashed in the Oba Akran region of Ikeja, Lagos State, Channels Television has learned.

Tunji Oketunbi, spokesman for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), confirmed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday afternoon.

In addition, a LASEMA officer told our correspondent that the aeroplane exploded into flames when the tragedy occurred.

According to LASEMA, four people, including the pilot, were on board the doomed plane and were all rescued alive and transferred to a local hospital.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also acknowledged the incident.

NEMA Zonal Coordinator for South-West, Ibrahim Farinloye, stated on the Agency’s official WhatsApp channel that while the name of the helicopter’s operator was unknown, passengers onboard were all retrieved alive.

NEMA, LASEMA, and NSIB investigators have arrived on the spot.

The disaster on Tuesday happened three years after a Quorum Aviation helicopter crashed in the Opebi neighbourhood of Lagos in August 2020.

Around 12 p.m., the helicopter crashed into a residential building on Salvation Road in the Opebi neighbourhood. The three people on the helicopter were all killed.
