Farmland, homes, and even the town hall were completely destroyed by a torrential downpour in Iyah Gbedde, Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State.
This was revealed by Dr. Emmanuel Jeminiwa, national president of the Iyah Gbede Development Association (IDA), in an interview with OBASANJO NEWS24 on Friday.
Jeminiwa pointed out that Tuesday night’s storm, which began with strong winds and rain, destroyed crops in addition to causing damage to homes.
Despite the loss of crops like yams and cassava, he insisted that Iyah Gbede is an agricultural village.
As the community township roads are currently impassable, he claims that the calamity has had an impact on them.
Additionally, he mentioned that it is currently challenging for farmers to access their farms due to the destruction of the bridge that runs alongside them. He called the disaster regrettable and said that the damage is worse than what the community can bear.
He pleaded on corporate entities, civic-minded citizens, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other emergency management agencies to come to their aid.
