Prominent Nigerian musician D’banj has discussed the moral divide between musicians of his generation and those of the current generation.
The ‘Koko Master’ observed that the moral compass of today’s musicians differs greatly from that of the musicians who ruled during his generation.
He revealed that occasionally he phones his colleague 2Baba, who was the subject of controversy years ago for having children outside of marriage, to mockingly chastise him for not pushing him to follow in his footsteps.
D’banj said that, in contrast to his time, when having an extramarital kid could spell the end of one’s career, celebrities today receive praise for having extramarital children.

“Our generation was so hard,” the Koko Master stated in a Lagos interview with The Beat FM. Your career might well end if you had an unmarried child. However, these days, everyone just accepts it.
“I’m upset. There’s a difference when you see them rejoicing with their children, so sometimes I phone 2Face to chastise him for not supporting me then. Their children are adolescents, and they are in their 30s.
But in my opinion, it’s more about your mental state than it is about individuals: Are you ready both financially and mentally? You don’t need everything in the world; in fact, I believe it’s ideal if you’re willing to accept what life has to offer.
