Celebrating the birthday of Rt. Hon. Victor Sabor Tiger Edoror, a distinguished former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, known for his contributions to governance and community development.
Today, I wish a very Happy Birthday to the esteemed Rt. Hon. Victor Sabor Tiger Edoror, also known as Owdoolamper Victor Edoror—a true Giant and patriotic son of Esanland. We honor him for his remarkable service as the former representative of Esan Central Constituency and former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, in whom all three Senatorial Districts take great pride.
From his early youth and university days, Owdoolamper has been recognized for his boldness and unwavering commitment to what he believes in. As a proud Esan individual, Hon. Victor Edoror often faced hardships due to his advocacy for the Esan Nation. Nevertheless, he never gave up or let anything deter him from pursuing his cause.
In 2016, Tiger fearlessly took the lead as Speaker to represent Esan leaders in negotiations with both the current Governor and a candidate for the Governorship regarding the 2024 election. The aim was to secure an agreement for an Esan Governor, conditional upon their support. Even after being impeached due to various conspiracies, his vision of having an Esan individual become governor endured. This idea took root not only among politicians at that time but also inspired enthusiastic young people who later championed it fervently.
In 2017, after Owdoolamper was reinstated as Deputy Speaker, his entitlements, including salary, were abruptly halted due to his persistent advocacy for the Esan Agenda. He subsequently took the matter to court and successfully won the case; however, he has yet to receive any of his entitlements.
In 2019, the residents of Esan Central, who held him in high regard, entrusted Hon. Victor Edoror with another mandate to represent them in the state House of Assembly. Unfortunately, he faced challenges once more from Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration when they declined to swear him and his 13 colleagues into office without any apparent reason. Despite being elected as Speaker by a majority among them, for four years Obaseki withheld their swearing-in ceremony which prevented him from leading the House.
During these four challenging years, the people of Esan Central and 13 other constituencies lacked representation due to an undemocratic Governor who, in his vindictiveness, believed he would hold power indefinitely. It is remarkable how Owdoolamper managed to endure this period without being sworn in or receiving any entitlements throughout those years. Despite not accumulating wealth like many politicians with a second avenue of income might have done, he was able to navigate and overcome these struggles and challenges admirably.
For myself and the majority of our Esan community, particularly the young people from the five Local Government Areas of Edo Central, Rt. Hon. Victor Sabor Tiger Edoror, also known as Owdoolamper, is highly deserving of being appointed as the next Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Edo state. This endorsement stems not from sympathy but purely on merit.
With extensive experience spanning student politics, community service, the House of Assembly, and roles as both Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Owdoolamper has significantly engaged with all three Senatorial Districts of the state. He possesses a deep understanding of the dynamics and political landscape across its 18 local government areas and 24 constituencies. I ask you: who could be more qualified or experienced than someone like him?
Luckily for Senator Monday Okpebholo, this person hails from both his local government and the same kingdom—the Irrua Kingdom. His loyalty is unquestionable, making him an ideal companion to join Senator Okpebholo on Osadebe Avenue due to his extensive experience in governance. As a fellow brother and devoted Esan man, he can be trusted not to mislead the Governor.
Today, we pay tribute to you, Rt. Hon. Victor Sabor Tiger Edoror, celebrating your role as a symbol of hope, courage, and true servant leadership. May your birthday be filled with joy, love, and blessings.
