Gunmen strike again, resulting in the death of five in Plateau
In the Shere District of Jos East Council, Durbi village experienced another attack where a father and son were fatally shot by gunmen who invaded the village.
The Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of the Council, Mr Markus Nyam, confirmed the incident and praised the vigilantes in the area for their efforts in killing one of the assailants.
The joint security task force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), also responded promptly to prevent further chaos caused by the attackers. However, the Plateau State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, stated that the incident in Jos East was actually an attempted kidnapping, contradicting the belief that it was an attack on the local government.
Alabo emphasized that the police were able to repel the kidnappers and confirmed another attack in Kwahaslalek community, Mangu local government, where the command successfully thwarted the attackers’ plan.
In light of these events, the State Commissioner of Information, Mr Musa Ashoms, urged the people of the state to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the law enforcement agencies.
