Gunmen Launch Deadly Attack on Anambra Police Station

Gunmen launched an attack on a police station in Anambra, resulting in the tragic death of a police corporal.

Once again, a police station in Oba located within the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State fell victim to an attack perpetrated by armed individuals.

There have been three recent attacks on police in the state, including those in Nnewi and Nnobi in August that resulted in some officers making the ultimate sacrifice.

According to OBASANJONEWS, a police corporal whose name was not disclosed lost his life in the attack that took place on Tuesday morning.

The police authorities in Anambra State have verified the assault. They stated that a petrol bomb was hurled into the police station by individuals suspected to be separatist elements, resulting in the death of a police operative.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, responded to media inquiries regarding the attack and stated that an armed secessionist group had opened fire indiscriminately in their bid to infiltrate a police station. Additionally, they hurled crude incendiary devices at security installations which resulted in several offices being engulfed by flames – including the Oba Civic Center.

Regrettably, a police corporal lost his life due to fatal injuries sustained. However, with the assistance of other on-duty police officers and the collaborative efforts of the responding joint security team, the fire was successfully extinguished.

This morning, Ikenga announced the commencement of operations. Collaborating with police-led joint security forces consisting of the Army, Navy, Civil defence and other security agencies; a combined attack is currently underway within Oba and surrounding areas.

According to him, the invasion of security facilities and hostility towards security agents was described by CP Nnaghe Obono Itam -the Commissioner of Police- as an attack on the soul of a nation.

He promised to hold accountable those responsible for the immoral action.
