Gunmen launch a deadly attack on a police checkpoint, killing an officer. Discover the details of this tragic and violent incident.
A checkpoint near the Nnobi Police Station situated along the Nnobi/Nkpor Road in Anambra State’s Idemili South Local Government Area underwent a violent attack that resulted in the death of a police officer.
Local sources have stated that the officer who was killed was apparently driving one of the police vehicles positioned at the checkpoint.
Eyewitnesses disclosed to OBASANJONEWS Reporters in a report that the attackers penetrated the community on Friday, settling temporarily in a nearby domicile.
According to reports, they purportedly breached a wall in order to enter the premises and then pressured inhabitants into unlocking the entrance gate. Following this, they seized their personal devices before compelling them into one area.
According to reports, the gunmen used violent threats towards residents who attempted to raise an alarm.

Less than three weeks ago, there was a comparable assault where gunmen attacked a police checkpoint on Omata-Nnobi Road in Nnewi situated within the jurisdiction of the Nnewi North Local Government Area. This event follows that occurrence.
An explosive device was used by the attackers during the assault, which resulted in the death of a police officer.
The most recent assault was verified by SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer.
It was observed by him that the condition was being taken care of, with continuous activities in the vicinity supervised by Nnaghe Itam, who is the Commissioner of Police for the state.
“The attack did result in the loss of one police officer’s life,” conveyed Ikenga. “Under orders from the Commissioner of Police, there is an ongoing operation taking place nearby.
This unfortunate occurrence highlights the heroic sacrifice that security personnel face while performing their duty. The officers were positioned at the checkpoint to observe and secure the area when they came under fire by armed assailants.”
