In Owerri, the capital of Imo State, three gunmen are said to have shot and killed a couple known as Mr. and Mrs. Sampson Owobo.
According to information obtained by OBASANJO NEWS24, Owobo is a former assistant superintendent of police and comes from the state of Edo.
The unsightly episode, which happened on Sunday night at around 8 o’clock outside the Chisco Transport office close to the Owerri Area Police Command Office, confused residents and proprietors of nearby businesses.
While business owners evacuated the area, residents hastened inside to lock the doors leading to their apartments.
The couple’s luggage, which contained an undisclosed amount of money, is supposedly what the fleeing suspected armed robbers were trying to steal from them, according to an eyewitness.
The retired ASP was shot at close range in the forehead, according to the eyewitness, after the three-man gang failed to steal the bag of cash.
“At close range, near her chest on her left side, his wife was also shot.
“While the wife was transported by police to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, where she was later determined to be dead, the husband passed away there.
“With pump action rifles in hand, the armed robbers were attempting to steal a bag of cash. The pair runs a POS company and sells bread, according to the source.
The couple was killed, according to Henry Okoye, a spokesperson for the State’s police command.
“We strongly condemn the couple’s murder. The CP disapproves of the couple’s murder, and he has right away started an inquiry into it in an effort to apprehend the evading perpetrators,” Okoye said.
