Gunmen Kill 2, Abduct Corps Member and 4 Others in Ondo

On Friday night, an alarming event took place when gunmen suspected of being kidnappers assaulted passengers on the Ifon-Owo highway in Ondo State. As a result, two individuals were killed and five people – among them a corps member – were abducted.

According to Leadership, the attack took place at about 11pm in Omi Alafa village within the jurisdiction of Ose local government area. Nearly fifteen assailants wielding weapons laid an ambush for a group of commuters resulting in the incident.

Using AK-47 rifles, the assailants discharged their weapons at a Sienna bus en route from Anambra State to Owo and Akure in Ondo State.

According to insiders, the assault caused significant alarm among locals and commuters on the expressway for hours. Numerous travelers were able to flee but sustained differing extents of harm.

The police were informed by eyewitnesses that the gunmen had shot at the vehicle without any specific target, resulting in confusion and fatalities. The deceased driver and a female passenger have been transported to Adelabu Hospital’s morgue located in Ifon.

The tragic occurrence has been confirmed by Fumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer. However, it is uncertain how many victims were able to flee.

She confirmed that the police forces are currently scouring through the forest, making every effort to rescue those who were abducted.
