Gunmen Kill 11 People in Benue, Reports Say

Gunmen attack in Benue State, leaving at least 11 people dead, as security forces investigate the deadly incident.

According to reports, unidentified gunmen have killed at least 11 people in an attack on several communities in Nyiev-ya, located within the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.

It was reported that the incident occurred on December 25 while people were celebrating Christmas with their families.

A community resident confirmed the attack to reporters on Thursday.

The resident, choosing to remain anonymous, reported receiving a distress message indicating that Nyiev-ya was under attack.

This afternoon, December 25th, individuals identified as terrorist herders invaded Ubutu and GSS Anwase, resulting in fatalities and the burning of houses.

“The terrorists killed Daniel Jam’s son. Please pray for our community and seek God’s guidance along with government intervention,” the resident urged.

During the attack on Tse Azege community, another resident reported that Ityuluv in Nyiev-ya community was also under assault.

“If there’s anything the chairman or the government plans to do, they should act quickly. The reports from Kwande remain concerning.”

“The terrorist herders have persisted in their attacks against our people today, December 26,” he stated.

The President General of Mzough U Tiv Worldwide, Iorbee Ihagh from Kwande LGA, stated that the community leader in the region verified the attack.

He stated that the attack was unprovoked and reported that several people lost their lives on Christmas Day.

According to reports, eleven people lost their lives in an unprovoked attack on Kwande LGA yesterday. The assailants, identified as herdsmen, invaded the communities and assaulted the residents.

“Numerous individuals remain unaccounted for. Community leaders have reported the attack to the police,” he stated.

Solomon Amande, a resident of the affected community, confirmed that 11 people had died in attacks carried out by armed herders and militia groups.

When contacted, Sewuese Anene, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that she had no information regarding the incident.
