Gunmen Kidnap Naval Rating, 7 Others in Akwa Ibom

On Monday night, eight people were kidnapped in Ibaka within the Mbo Local Government Area which has caused a sense of terror among its residents. Among those abducted was a Naval Rating.

According to reports, the victims were abducted from their leisurely stay at the Classic Point Hotel in Ibaka.

As per information from local residents, the kidnappers promptly transported those taken to a place that remains unidentified. ASP Timfon John, who serves as the Police Public Relations Officer for Akwa Ibom State Command verified the occurrence.

Upon receipt of the report, she stated that Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara expeditiously headed a police team to the community.

The public was reassured by ASP John that the police were implementing strategic measures to bring back normalcy. She informed, “After receiving reports, a security team led by Commissioner of Police CP Waheed Ayilara visited the community. I guarantee you that with this visit and other tactics employed, things will soon return to normal.”

There has been no statement from the Naval authorities in Akwa Ibom regarding the abductions. Another occurrence happened recently where a bus driver and 18 passengers were abducted while traveling from Uyo to Port Harcourt, and their location is still unknown.

The abducted individuals’ safe return is eagerly awaited by the community, which remains on edge. Ongoing kidnappings have raised security concerns in the area to a new level.
