Gunmen Attack Patrol Team in Abia, Kill Officer and Injure Two Others

Tragedy in Abia as gunmen ambush a patrol team, leaving one officer dead and two others injured. Authorities intensify search for attackers.

A police officer was reportedly killed on Wednesday during an attack by gunmen on a patrol team along Asaga road in the Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.

The unfortunate incident, which resulted in injuries to two others, reportedly happened around 7:30 a.m.

Eyewitnesses reported that while on patrol, the police officers were confronted by a group of approximately six young men. In the ensuing attack, one officer was killed and two injured officers managed to flee into the bush.

Officers from the Ohafia Division and soldiers from the 14 Brigade swiftly conducted a thorough search of the area to locate the fleeing suspects.

When reached for comment, Assistant Superintendent of Police Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Abia State Command, stated: “The situation is not very clear at this time. I will provide you with updates on this matter.”
