Gunmen Attack Customs Base in Kebbi: Officer Killed, 1 Kidnapped

Gunmen attack a customs base in Kebbi, killing an officer and kidnapping one. Read about the incident and the ongoing investigation.

One officer was killed and another abducted in a recent assault on the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) patrol base located in Koko, Kebbi State.

Suspected hoodlums targeted the base, causing significant damage during their carried out assault.

The anti-smuggling squad’s base was tracked by the assailants, as revealed by Muhammad Tajudeen Salisu who serves as Kebbi State Command’s public relations officer.

Officer Dabo Umar was killed and facilities were vandalized during the attack while Babagana Abba Kabiru, another officer on duty there, got kidnapped.

Officer Umar’s recovered remains have been transported to Kaduna for an Islamic burial.

A search for the abducted officer has been launched by Comptroller Earnest Iheanacho, who also offered condolences to the family of the deceased in a statement.

Iheanacho reiterated NCS’s commitment to carry on with their anti-smuggling crusade despite any challenges posed.

Fear will not cause us to abandon our patrol or borders, and despite the threats from unhappy individuals, we are determined to stop smuggling at any expense. Our commitment remains steadfast.

The rescue efforts are currently in progress, and the authorities have pledged to keep everyone informed as developments unfold.

Border officials have received a strong recommendation to sustain their exceptional work ethics while utilizing all accessible security protocols during any activity they undertake.

The incident highlights the perils encountered by security personnel as they strive to curb smuggling and uphold law and order along the borders.
