On Thursday, the assailants broke into the nearby Ejemekwuru Customary Court and murdered its chairman, Nnaemeka Ugboma.

After gunmen attacked a court building in the state, one person was killed in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to Channels Television, the assailants attacked the nearby Ejemekwuru Customary Court on Thursday and assassinated its chairman, Nnaemeka Ugboma.

Although the State Police Command has not officially confirmed the occurrence, it was heard that Mr. Ugboma was killed when the attackers rushed the area on motorbikes while he was still inside the courthouse.

According to reports, the incident spread terror throughout the neighbourhood, leading residents, court personnel, and attorneys to seek shelter elsewhere.

Although the traditional court judge is rumoured to have been from the same Oguta Local Government Area, the reason for the attack and who carried it out are still unknown.

Henry Okoye, the state’s police spokesperson, did not return calls from Channels Television, and the command has not yet released a comment regarding the event.

Gunmen have been attacking Imo repeatedly, terrorising the state and neighbouring South-Eastern states.

The government, security agencies, and facilities are frequently the targets of the shooters.

The Agwa Vigilante Group was ambushed just last week by gunmen who were allegedly from the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the Agwa Community of the same council area of the state.

Police officers who stopped the attack murdered three alleged IPOB members.
