Mr. Christopher Eleghu, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for the Imo State House of Assembly in the Onuimo Local Government Area, was killed by gunmen.
According to Mike Abattam, spokesman for the Imo State Police Command, the event occurred early on Friday at Mr. Eleghu’s country residence in the Umucheke neighbourhood of Onuimo council.
He claimed that the assassins destroyed his home after killing him along with his car and other belongings.
He said that Mohammed Barde, who is in charge of the police in Imo State, has ordered an investigation into the sad event and sent out all of the tactical units under his command to find and catch the attackers.
According to INEC, “No Important Election Materials Were Destroyed in the Imo Attack.”
Victoria Chintex, a pioneer in the LP for women in Kaduna, was assassinated a few weeks ago.
The Independent National Electoral Commission’s headquarters in the South-East state have recently come under fire from gunmen on an equal basis. The most recent one, which occurred a few days ago, resulted in the loss of some lives.
Gov. Hope Uzodimma connected the attacks to political figures in his response to them.
When he went to the Imo Police headquarters following one of the attacks, he said, “If we correlate this with the events of the past, we have continually said that what is happening in Imo State is politically orchestrated.”
“Some people don’t want the election, even though they believe they can win it.” How would they succeed now?
However, INEC claimed that no essential materials were lost in the incident.
In a statement issued shortly after the incident, INEC’s national commissioner, Festus Okoye, claimed that “the attack affected the part of the building used by the Election and Party Monitoring (EPM) Department and one official utility vehicle (a Toyota Hilux pickup van) was destroyed.”
After the earlier attacks on our Orlu LGA office on December 1 and Oru West LGA office on December 4, this is the third attack on the Commission’s facilities in Imo State in less than two weeks.
